RULES

RULES

Roleplay:
Since (Dark Ages LIF) is a roleplay community, players should roleplay their character. Roleplay can be done at the level of complexity that fits the player (in Steam group discussion forum, you can even write a description of backstory). Characters who experience in-game conflict are encouraged resolve disputes through roleplay.

Character names:
All character names must be in the spirit of roleplay. Avoid using improper capitalization in names. Titles and jobs included in a name is acceptable. GMs will make the final ruling as to whether or not a name is acceptable.

Character limit:
Only one character is allowed per player. Players will receive an error if attempting to create a second character.

Metagaming:
Remember that this a roleplay server, and that metagaming is frowned upon. What you know out of character is not necessarily the same as what you know in character. However, metagaming does and will occur, so players should be mindful of what information they disperse on global and TeamSpeak.

Communication:
We want the community to also be an arena for social chatting. Use of global chat, local chat, voice chat, and TeamSpeak is allowed. But avoid unnecessarily clogging up global chat by being considerate and whenever possible trying to use TeamSpeak, local chat or Steam chat.

Courtesy:
Improper language use, trolling, bullying and insulting in global chat channel in a way that is not in the spirit of roleplay is not allowed. This courtesy extends to TeamSpeak; players should be respectful to each other on the TeamSpeak servers, and should not use TeamSpeak channels to troll guilds or otherwise distract them during combat. Out of character personal attacks in global, on the steam group, or through TeamSpeak, are against the rules.

Neutral area:
Trade Center in the center of the map is a neutral area for trade, and new player spawn. Attacking within the claim borders of this area is prohibited. Using the neutral area as a “shield” to prevent death or serious injury is prohibited.

GAMEPLAY AND BUILDING

Infinite Piles:
Mining is NOT ALLOWED; players must use GM-spawned infinite piles. Infinite piles are to be placed by GMs only; character placed infinite piles are not allowed. Smiths who need to level mining may contact a GM to change it once their Prospecting is to 60. Any person or guild found creating infinite pile with a modified quality will be INSTANTLY BANNED. No building any structure within 70 tiles of the infinite pile unless it is within a claim or within 10 tiles of your monument. Building roads and lamp posts within this radius is acceptable. If a guild reaches to infitinite pile, the pile will be removed and replaced another area. PLEASE CHECK INFINITE PILES LOCATION ON MAP UNDER THIS PAGE!

Monuments:
Players may not place a monument within 70 tiles of an infinite pile. Monuments within this radius can be removed without warning.
Due to past abuse, the top of the main mountain is off limits to building. To make it easy, do not build or claim at or above the height of 110 tiles.

Terraforming:
Due to the limitations of the game and terraforming, do not dig moats around your base or use earthen ramparts to raise your walls. Guilds should not undertake large nonessential terraforming projects. Excessively stacking clay and snow to build on causes excessive lag and is prohibited.

Tree stumps and walls:
Players may not make walls of trees as it is not in the spirit of roleplay. Always uproot tree stumps.

COMBAT:

Roleplaying Combat:
If you have no plausible, roleplay reason to attack another player, it will be considered kill on sight, and this is not allowed. Roleplayed interactions need to have at least one line of in character player text; voice chat would not be considered a viable roleplay interaction, as not all players use sound when in-game. War is considered a “roleplay reason” to initiate attack; members of warring guilds may attack one another without roleplaying in local first. If a player reaches an evil alignment (-50 or lower), they may be killed on sight without forewarning. Defending your territory from trespassers in your claim is considered a RP reason to attack.

Crime:
If server rules are broken, or griefing is involved, GMs will interfere – otherwise, crimes and criminals are enforced in roleplay and by local law as dictated by surrounding guilds. Guilds may declare a person a criminal and request assistance from other guilds in pursuing them as needed.

War declaration:
When war is declared, and agreed upon, war terms must be set. Guilds may choose whether to have open war, in which guild members may kill each other without RP dialogue, or total war, in which both parties agree for a judgment hour to be implemented.
Open war may be declared on another guild without the opposing guild’s consent if the attacker provides a casus belli (or “reason or war”) to a GM and to the opposing guild.
If a guild wants to plan a surprise attack, and does not want to openly declare war, they may inform a GM before battle of their intentions to declare war. They may then initiate combat against the other guild once given the okay.

Judgment hour:
Once total war is declared, both parties must agree on a time with a GM for judgment hour to take place. During the judgment hour, only warring parties may attack and raid each others’ bases. Any guilds not included in the war may not raid other guilds during this time.
Judgment hour may be declared without the opposing guild’s consent if that guild has had a total of ten kills or knockouts against members of your guild. If a guild wishes to exercise this option, they must provide names and times of members killed to a GM to begin the process. Once Judgment Hour is approved, both guilds must coordinate with a GM to determine an appropriate time. Kills made while defending within your own claim will not count towards kill count.
If you die during a judgment hour siege, you are considered dead and may not reenter the battle. Normal gameplay activity may resume upon the completion of judgment hour.
Multiple instances of judgment hour may occur over the period of a war, so long as those times are agreed upon by all involved guilds. Any guilds involved in a raid or siege must wait 24 hours before attacking again. During this 24 hour period, these guilds may only counterattack as a result of an attack on them.

GM MODE:

Contacting a GM:
GMs have the option to maintain anonymity with their non-GM character, so just because a GM is not visible online does not mean they are not there. If a GM is needed, a player should first request assistance in global. Most of the time, a GM will see the request and either collect more information or teleport to a player in order to resolve the issue in local. If a GM does not respond in global, players should attempt to contact one in TeamSpeak or request that another player do so. If no GMs are available in-game or through TeamSpeak, players may also use the Appeals subforum of the Steam Group. Players are encouraged to provide screenshots or any other evidence to back up their claims.

GM Responsibilities:
GMs will use GM power to assist with building removal within a player’s claim and provide judgment to rule violations. Any other requests for GM to use GM Power for assistance will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. GMs are not responsible for loss of items, livestock and mounts due to game bugs. However, items that have fallen through the world can be recovered. Players should be careful not to upgrade monument beyond what is earned, as this creates problems with the monument. GMs will not reset server for bugged monuments.

GM Rules:
GM power should not be misused to gain an unfair advantage.
GMs will only access GM powers from non-GM toon on an emergency basis – all other times they must log in to the GM character in order to access powers.
GMs who are part of a guild involved in a conflict will not be allowed to use GM powers to affect the conflict or make judgment regarding the conflict.
Any players concerned about GMs not abiding by these rules should contact the GM team directly with any concerns. GM actions are monitored through the Admin system; any claims of GM abuse will be investigated through system logs.
